As I write this the temperature is in the 50’s and we
are within a week of our first sno cross race. Our
season will begin either at Hickory Ski Center in
Warrensburg, NY or if they can’t make enough snow we may
travel to Duluth, MN for the Amsoil Championship
Snocross Series first race of the season.
Last season we enjoyed a fair amount of success. Hunter
raced in the JR. 8-10 300cc class. He did win the points
championship for both the Saturday class and the Sunday
class. It was very close going into the final race at
Windham Ski Mountain but Hunter rode like a real
professional and overcame a 10 point deficit to win the
Saturday points championship and just rode a smart race
to maintain the points lead for the Sunday championship.
This year brings a whole new set of challenges. Hunter
will be racing two sleds. He will compete in the JR
10-13 380cc fan class as well as the JR 10-13 600cc fan
class. We acquired a race ready Ski Doo MXZ 380 last
year so Hunter could get some seat time on the bigger
sled. This season we have purchased a new Ski Doo TNT
550 XP for the second class. We have had to do a fair
amount of preparation to the new sled to make it
competitive on the sno cross track but we are nearing
completion.
Our intent this year is to again follow the Rock Maple
Racing (www.rockmaple.com) series which is the premier sno cross venue in the
Northeast. We will also attend some of the Northeast
Snocross Tour (www.nesnocrosstour.com)
which holds its races primarily at a track just North of
Albany. We are also planning on attending 3 of the
Amsoil Championship Snocross Series races (www.isocracing.com).
This series is based out of Minnesota and is the top
series in our sport.
With the generous support and sponsorship of several
local businesses and individuals, last year was a super
year. In addition to winning the points championship the
sponsorships we received helped send Hunter to a 3 day
sno cross school instructed by Ski Doo Factory backed
professional rider Robbie Malinoski. That school is
again planned for this year with the instructor being
the Amsoil Championship Snocross Series rookie of the
year for last year, Brett Bender. Brett is factory
backed Polaris racer and is a native of Western New
York.
As you can imagine it is an expensive endeavor to
compete in sno cross racing. The sleds and equipment are
only part of the expense. The travel expenses can be
monumental as well. Up until this point in Hunters
racing career it has been fairly affordable. Now, with
two classes each day of the weekend, two sleds, and the
equipment to get to the track our expenses will increase
substantially. We are soliciting sponsorships to help us
with the coming season. If you are able to help us, we
will list your name as a sponsor on the website for the
given series we run in. Each site has racer profiles and
that is where we list our sponsors. Also at each race
when the racers are introduced their sponsors are
mentioned. Currently the Twin Lakes Snowmobile Assoc.,
which is the local snowmobile club in Trumansburg,
dedicates a page to Hunters racing. I also provide a
list of sponsors for them to post on their website.
Finally, sponsors will have their name on Hunters race
sleds and trailer for fans and friends to see. Also the
Amsoil Championship Snocross Series events will be aired
on Satellite television Versus (VS) channel. Each race
will have a one hour show, so the potential exists for
some national TV exposure at those events as well.
It is my belief that Hunter posses the talent to compete
and win on a national level as he grows older. The more
success we have early on in his career will generate
connections that will be beneficial in the years to
come. However that success comes with a price tag.
Hunters progress can be tracked by looking at the
results page of the different series websites or Hunters
race report that we post on
www.twinlakessnowmobile.com. Of
course you
can call or email me anytime, I am more than happy to
talk to anyone about our progress. We are looking
forward to a fun, safe, and successful 2009-10 season. I
can be reached at 607-227-9741 or email
arcticwood00@yahoo.com.Sponsorships can
be mailed to 2235 Kraft Rd Ithaca, NY 14850. We would
like to thank you in advance for your support.
